1. Pan Pressure

  • Never positive
  • Usually between -0.1" H2O and -0.5" H2O.
  • Never more than -1.0" H2O
✧Root Causes of Pan Pressure Problems
  • Wrong setting
  • Clogged bag house
  • Bag house purge is not working, pulses too strong
  • Gain on the coating pan controller (PLC) is not correct
  • Seals on the exit plenum are damaged

2. Pan Speed

  • There is no single specific setting.
  • This is a relative setting based on tablet size, shape and load.
  • Experience and observation are the initial basis of good science.
  • Two basic pan speeds for each product:
    1. Initial speed to achieve a basic covering
    2. steady state speed.
✧The Coating Pan as a Blender

  • Tablets in a coating pan rotate in a slip-stick manner.
  • Illustration of stick-slip model:
    -Tablets in red region flow downstream, to the right, whereas particles in blue region rotate clockwise with the drum.
