Mixing and Coating

1. Like any other piece of industrial equipment, mixers only operate at their highest level of efficiency, effectiveness and reliability if they are properly configured and the placed correctly for the specific mixing or blending task.

2. With that in mind, there are a number of operational variables that must be considered when choosing a mixer to mix both simple and complex coating formulas.

Coating Solutions: Suspensions

1. Technically, find mixing equipment are termed as liquid agitators. We call them mixers.

2. There are differences in the design, construction and operation of fluid mixing equipment as compared to solid mixers.

3. In mixing film coating formula powders, the product often consists of two or more easily identifiable phases, each of which may contain individual particles of considerable size.

4. In fluid mixing, a "well-mixed" product usually means a truly homogenous liquid phase.

5. Problems come when parts of the coating formulas are not completely mixed or are allowed to settle.

Three Common Models of Mixer Propellers

1. Three Blade ("Marine prop") is one of the most common and effective mixers for simple coating solutions.

2. Four Blade Square Pitch is commonly used for complex coating formulas of higher viscosity.

3. Double Centrifugal offer a more directed flow pattern.
