Common Processing Problems


  • 1. Dead space / Slow moving particles
  • 2. Humidity Variation
  • 3. Air flow / Disc problems or damage
        Discs wear with use. They may be deformed when dropped.
        Pharma companies frequently utilize a formal disc inspection and certification program.
  • 4. Spray Rate Variation
  • 5. Nozzle Clogging
  • 6. Excessive Bead Agglomeration
  • 7. Uneven Coating Amongst Particles
        Crystalline particles are very hard to coat using the Bottom Spray technology but is not so great an issue using side spray:
        Particle breakage is an issue.

        In multiple nozzle units two problems can cause non uniform coating:
    -   In an unbalanced bed some particle are cycling past the coating nozzle more often than others, thus receiving more coating.
    -   One or more nozzles may be malfunctioning.
