Advantages and Disadvantages of the Twin Shell and Double Cone Blenders


Advantages
  • Widely available
  • Direct scale up possible
  • Good batch to batch reproducibility
Disadvantages
  • Sensitive to fill volumes
  • Sensitive to changes in blend time
  • Intensifier bar is:
    - necessary for cohesive materials
    - complex and difficult to install and clean
  • Height requirement for large batches

Advantages and Disadvantages of the Tote/IBC/Bin Blenders


Advantages
  • Easy to understand
  • Widely available
  • Many sizes and shapes possible
Disadvantages
  • No baffles/intensifier bar
  • Size limitations at the high end of capacity.
  • May not provide an adequate level of axial blending for some cohesive actives.
