Inlet and Outlet Air Temperatures for Coater
Source : Yenchen Technical Process Consultant, Dr. Fred Rowley
Inlet and out air temperatures are not the same thing and do not have the same goals.
Important Distinction!
Inlet air temperature is a set point, whereas Outlet air temperature is a function.
- Inlet air CFM + Inlet air Temp + Spray Rate + Atomizing air = Outlet Temp.
- With dehumidified air and no humidity shifts.
- A non-mathematical equation designed to show the relationship between various factors and the outlet temperature as a function of these factors.
We may express this relationship differently:
• if any one of the factors on the left side of the equation change, the outlet temperature will also change.
If we monitor the outlet temperature and we notice that the spray rate is constant, the atomizing air is constant and the quantity of heated air is constant, then we can simply vary the inlet temperature slightly to maintain the outlet air temperature target.
This is in fact how many computerized systems work. - Monitoring outlet air temperature helps us determine if any of the other factors have changed or shifted.
