A Comparison of Processing Parameters Used For Functional And Aqueous Coating
Source : Yenchen Technical Process Consultant, Dr. Fred Rowley
Aqueous film coating requires higher quantities of processing air and higher inlet air temperatures to achieve a uniform dried color coating.
Enteric coatings and rate controlling membranes require an organic solvent to dissolve the membrane and to deposit the membrane on the tablet.
A Comparison of Aqueous and Solvent Coating Processing Parameters
Because we are using solvents that have a lower evaporation temperature, inlet temperatures used to coat tablets are somewhat lower and the spray rates may be much higher. This is somewhat dependent on the class of solvent used with the alcohols requiring somewhat lower temperatures and acetone perhaps the lowest of all.Functional Based Coating Note
Precise control of:
- air temperature
- air volume
- spray rate
- atomizing air
