There are no direct controls for tablet hardness on a tablet press.



Control Factors:


  • over blended lubricant, not a press issue
  • Tablet weight
  • Tablet thickness
  • Punch Length standardized (working length)
  • Condition of the pressure rolls
  • Feeder Speed optimized
  • Press Speed ("Dwell Time"), aka turret speed
  • Pre-compression tablet thickness
  • Upper Punch Penetration


The Three Classic Signs We Have a Lubrication Problem:


  • Lamination, chipping, Unusually high or failing friability (or abrasion) results.
  • Soft tablets: tablets that barely meet the minimum hardness specification.
  • Disintegration results that are more or less the same, even if the tablets are soft/barely passing.
